Centre for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture (CULLC) is established with an approval of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi in Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad to promote and protect the aesthetic and cultural values of Urdu Language, Literature and its historical consciousness. The foundation stone of the building was laid by Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Hon’ble Minister of Water Resource on 27th April, 2006 with the name Urdu Museum. Later its name was changed to Centre for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture and the building was inaugurated by Prof. A. R. Qidwai, Hon’ble Governor of Haryana on the occasion of 2nd Convocation of MANUU dated 16th June, 2007.

 

          The Centre is established with the vision “Protection and promotion of aesthetical and cultural values of Urdu Language, Literature and its historical consciousness” and with the mission “to develop it as a combination of archives, museum, library, cultural research institution and wishes to be perceived as an authority in Urdu Language, Literature & Culture both in terms of collection and conservation”. Prof. Khalid Saeed, Head, Department of Urdu is the In-charge Director of this Centre.

Aims & Objectives:

·        To collect and preserve antiquities and materials which reflect the culture and heritage of Urdu language, literature and Urdu community and display the same in the centre.

·        To represent the genre of Urdu literature through the medium of fine art through electronic information technology.

·        To familiarize the visitor with the information related to Urdu language, literature & culture.

·        To honor eminent Urdu scholars and poets by providing instantaneous digitalized information about their literary works and showcasing them as windows to history and culture.

·        To provide a legitimate forum for intelligent discussion, debate etc. by providing correct information about Urdu language, literature & culture.

·        To chronicle the history of the Urdu language and culture in meticulous detail by organizing the galleries to be educative thereby providing an invaluable educational facility to scholars.

·        To achieve world class quality in the Center’s ventures and activities including exhibitions, publications, artifact collection, showcasing and marketing.

·        To implement a computerized catalogue and control system of all artifacts and archival repositories.

·        To encourage liberal access to access to archival holding of the centre.

·        To develop scientific temper, professionalism among custodians and users of the centre for proper care and use.

·        To prepare documentaries on Urdu History, Culture, Monuments & eminent personalities and the same will be a part of the collection of the Centre.

 

Galleries: 

 Centre for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture have established two galleries

  1. A gallery based on an achievements and activities of Maulana Azad National Urdu University in pictorial form with the name of “MANUU At a Glance”. This gallery shows the history of Maulana Azad National Urdu University in pictorial form from the day of foundation of MANUU.

 

  1. To fulfill aims and objectives, the centre has also established a gallery on “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad” with the name of “Azad Gallery”. This gallery shows biography of Maulana Azad in pictorial form.

Library:

 Centre for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture has a separate library with the vision to collect all available reading material on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and also written by Maulana himself along with Urdu Literature and to provide services to the visitors and scholars. The library is under process of automation. It has also a separate section of electronic reading materials. The CULLC wishes to establish/develop its library as a research cell for the Urdu lovers & scholars. In future this library will be treated as an authority cell for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture.
