The programme is recognized by NCTE, ERC Bhubneshwar, Order No:-ERC/7-168.6.28/NCTE/M.Ed-Additional Course/2014/23974 Dated-19/02/2014 and Order No-:F.ERC/NCTE/ERCAPP2046/M.Ed.(Revised Order)/2015/32523, Dated-:30/05/2015. Teacher is the architect of the nation and it is rightly said that as the teacher so the nation. The quality of students depends upon the quality of teachers. The quality of teachers prepared for school education reflects the quality of education that teacher education institutes provide. Many a time it has been found in the teacher education colleges that teacher-educator are professionally ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the job. It is obvious that education and training of a prospective teacher will be effective to the extent of the teacher educators are professionally equipped for the job. NCFTE (2009) mentioned in its document that: “The quality of pedagogical inputs in teacher education programmes and the manner in which they are transacted to realize their intended objectives depend largely on the professional competence of teacher educators”. Hence, there is a need of professionally trained teacher educators. It is true that nation is not only short of teacher educators but severely short of quality teacher educators. The reason may be attributed to structural gaps. In order to meet the shortage and enhance the quality of teacher educators, NCTE in 2014 announced new norms for M.Ed. programme including systemic change in curriculum with increase in duration. The Post Graduate Teacher Education programme (M.Ed.) was started in the year 2014 after getting recognition from NCTE, ERC. Initially it had an annual intake of 35 students, but in the wake of new norms and regulations, intake increased from 35 to 50 seats as one unit. It is a two year professional programme. College has adopted the revised curriculum of M.Ed. developed and approved by the University. The present syllabus of M.Ed is a blend of theory and practice with more focus on institutional experience and research. The first year M.Ed. programme deals with perspectives courses like Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology of Education, Social-Political, Historical and Economic Perspectives of Education, Educational Research, Teacher Education, and ICT in Education etc. The second year M.Ed. programme offers specialization either in Elementary or Secondary Education. Students have the option to choose either of the specialization in the beginning of the first year programme, as they are send for institutional engagement for training to supervise internship and other activities. Institutional projects related to internship and Dissertation is compulsory component. Efforts have been made to develop among students in-depth critical understanding of the nature of educational studies, comprehensive understanding of human psychology of learning and development, understand social, historical and economy in the context of education. Orient students to educational research, concept and skills develop abilities to plan and conduct quality research, get students acquainted about pre service and in service teacher education, multiple role of the teacher educators, contributions of various agencies and regulating bodies in enhancing quality teacher education, develop professional attitude, values and interests needed to function as a teacher educator are the main objectives of the programme. University also implemented CBCS in M.Ed programme and introduced IUMS (Integrated University Management System) to make the programme more effective. The two year M.Ed programme is divided into four semesters .The academic calendar of M.Ed. programme normally starts from 1st August of every year. The programme schedule is notified in the University prospectus with the commencement of the admission process. University prospectus usually mentions the commencement of classes, University Semester End Examination, Continuous Internal Evaluation, and Semester breaks etc.

B.Ed. Programme

The College of Teacher Education, Darbhanga established in 2007 and started Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) with intake of 100 which is running successfully as per the new norms and NCTE Regulations, 2014. The programme is recognized by NCTE, ERC Bhubaneswar Order No:-APE00698, ERC/7-74-7(1)12/2007/6804, Dated-05/03/200 and Order No:-F.ERC/NCTE/APE00698/B.Ed.(Revised Order)/2015/32599, Dated-:31/05/2015. The development of any nation is depend upon its educational system, in educational system teacher play a key role as NPE (1986) stated: The status of the teacher reflects the socio-cultural ethos of the society; it is said that no people can rise above the level of its teachers”. At present country is lacking good number of quality teachers. In the words of R.N. Tagore, the life of a teacher is like candle which burns itself but light goes to others, all acknowledges the importance of teacher as transmitters, inspirers and promoters of man’s eternal quest for knowledge. NCFTE (2009) in the opening pages mentions that: The expectation from teacher should not be taken as rhetoric but as a goal to be constantly striven for, the urgency is to address ourselves seriously to examining the issues related to the preparation of teachers as well as to prune the theory and practice of teacher education. In this context, NCTE has made a tremendous work by implementing 2014 Regulations in which curriculum has been changed, duration of course has been increased from one year to two year, emphasis given on practical activities and internship. Maulana Azad National Urdu University also prepared and implemented curriculum as per new Regulations 2014 and divided the two years into four semester to integrate the study of perspectives in Education, Curriculum and Pedagogic studies and engagement with the School and Community. Efforts have been made to engage students with studies on Indian society, conceptual tools of sociological analysis, conceptual understanding about issues of diversity, inequality, marginalization of Indian society, social, emotional which include self and identity, cognition ,learning etc To aware students about theoretical foundations of school knowledge from historical, philosophical and sociological perspectives with critical analysis of curricular aims and contexts, to understand the cultures, policies and practices, linking school knowledge with community, communicate the appropriate pedagogic processes with meaning , professional capacities, competencies and skills needed for becoming an effective teacher and aware the students about environment, population, gender, equality, legal literary, ICT, yoga , proficiency in languages are the main objectives of this programme . The syllabus of the B.Ed. Programme is consist of three core parts namely; Perspectives in Education, Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies, and Engagement with Field. Besides the core parts, internship is another important aspect of this programme which spreads over four semesters with peer teaching in first semester and institutional engagement in rest of the three semesters of varied duration. The present B.Ed curriculum is highly enriched with built in opportunities for pupil teachers to explore, innovate, create and practice the new ideas. The faculties of this college have been striving to achieve the goal of preparing quality teachers. University implemented CBCS in B.Ed and also introduced Integrated University Management System (IUMS) to make the programme more effective.
