Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University established at National Level in 1998 by an act of Parliament to promote and develop the Urdu language and to impart vocational and technical Education in Urdu medium through conventional and distance modes. The Headquarters of the University is at an outstanding central location-Gachibowli, Hyderabad, sprawled over 200 acres. The students and staff of the University are drawn from throughout India. They are attracted by its commitment to excellence in quality Urdu education in all disciplines of knowledge.

Since its inception, MANUU has focused on preparing teachers for Urdu medium schools. The first batch of D.Ed. Program was started in 2001 followed by the establishment of the Department of Education and Training in 2004 with the addition of B.Ed. programme in the same year. The School of Education & Training was established in 2006. The objective of School of Education and Training is to prepare a community of excellent school teachers and teacher educators rooted in tradition and well equipped for future. The emphasis of the school is on the functional relationship between knowledge generation, theory development and effective practice through Urdu medium. The School of Education & Training is well equipped in terms of faculty and infrastructure.

Objectives
The Department of Education and Training endeavours to:

• Promote academic excellence and strive to provide quality education through Urdu medium.
• Develop a research orientation among student teachers and teacher educators to promote research in the field of Education.
• Monitor theory as well as practical works of student teachers including projects.
• Provide higher education especially teacher education focused on skills and oriented towards productive employment opportunities.
• Review and revise curricula of various programs in view of worldwide developments and adaptation of technology applications for improving teaching-learning methods and generating creative teachers and leaders for the nation.
