Started in 2014, the Department of History offers B. A. & Postgraduate course (M.A.) in History. Interestingly, it has acquired a national character, drawing students from across India. It has five exceptionally motivated teachers-all trained in India’s premier institutions.
Catching up with the changing times, the Department has designed unique courses such as Economic History of India, Women in Modern India, Dalit Movement in Colonial India, India’s Neighbourly Relations with Central Asia, Indian Numismatics etc.
While keeping regard to the University objectives, the Department focuses on teaching and intends doing research on the history of Hyderabad, India’s South & Central Asian Neighbourhood, religious minorities, Dalits, women, etc.
Apart from classroom teaching, the students of the Department are provided practical knowledge through field work. By all means, the Department intends to generate a sense of multiculturalism among the students and link the past with the present for the sake of developing a total student personality.
In the immediate future, the Department intends starting M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes, one-year Bridge Course in History, and P.G. Diploma in History of Applied Tourism, P.G. Diploma in Heritage Conservation and Archival Management. The Departmental endeavour would be to tie up with industries, translation bureaus, policy planning divisions, NGOs and other organizations for job employability of the pass outs.
The vision of the Department is to make it a vibrant centre of academic excellence within the framework of MANUU’s distinguished space in the national and international arena.
