The Department was established in March 2008, the Department of Persian started its academic activities by launching regular PG course, M.A. Persian (2 years, 4 semesters) from the academic year (2008-09), and the Diploma in Persian was started from 2009-2010 (one year, two semesters). Research programmes M Phil & PhD will be started from the academic year 2011-2012

The Thrust areas of the Department are: Comparative Linguistics, Manuscript logy, Document Reading, Historiography, Epigraphy, Numismatics, and Sufi Poets.
